Good + Sears Orthodontics

  • Location
    San Francisco, CA
    Year
  • 2011

Good + Sears Orthodontics is a 1,500 sf orthodontist’s office located at 260 Stockton, facing Union Square in San Francisco. Given a rather expansive and complex program for a relatively small space, nottoscale came up with a spatial concept that allowed the light to filter through the long and narrow space while framing views of Union Square all the way through the suite.

Using the metaphor of a core or bracket, the center of the space is defined by the lab and the patient waiting area, both areas of utmost importance, that are at the beginning of an orthodontic treatment. The core is clearly defined by its unique high gloss finish and the lowered soffit that emphasize its volumetric appearance. A corridor loops around the core, making the circulation and orientation in the space exceedingly simple. The patient rooms and all the other spaces such as offices, staff room and others are located at the perimeter and are separated by full height translucent walls that allow for privacy while letting light filter through the space.

All aspects of the suite including the millwork, the reception desk and the seating arrangement have been custom designed by nottoscale in order to create a holistic user experience in which every little component is an identifiable part of the larger whole.
